Wyoming

So we are in WY for Aunt Vi's funeral on July 25. It was a nice service. She was 90 and the chapel was totally FILLED with family. We are a large bunch to say the least.
And I was lucky enough to experience Burlington's Pioneer Day celebration. Now I know Burlington Days has a very loyal and devout following of Moncur's who never miss a year. Therefore, I say this with the utmost respect: I have never spent 12 hours in that town of 299 and will likely never get that opportunity again if I can help it. However, the Parade was about 10 entries long and the kids got more candy than on Halloween. The program was full of talented people including a bag pipe Scotsman and Irish clogggers. Followed by lunch and a round of stick horse relay for the kids we were done by 1:30.

But lo, the much anticipated Burlington Dance was that night. Where all the dance partners are likely related, over 90 or under 5. We spent 6 hours anxiously awaiting the start of the dance. Some of us napped. Some went to see all 2 planes at the airport to pass off a merit badge 30 miles away. Some watered a duck and others climbed trees. It was a good thing we had fried chicken and brownies washed down by a slice of pizza to tied us over before the nights big festivities began (I lost track of my weight watchers points...I have a feeling I will have to run a long time on Monday!).

Finally when the excitement could no longer be contained we loaded up for the dance. There was the Virginia Reel, square dancing, country swing dancing and about a million kids running amok or twirling till they were about to puke. I had children in all categories. Carter is quite the dancer seeing as he has had a year of 5th grade PE to teach him all the old dances. Ethan, well 3 guesses what Ethan was doing. and Olivia was twirling her dress and falling down dizzy and loving it. It truly was day to remember. And most likely never to be repeated. Cara, I tag you on this one!

A little gross but...

We have been working on potty training Olivia and it has been going pretty well. Except she does better when she doesn't wear anything under her dress. So she spends a lot of time running around the house half naked. Yesterday I was on the computer and she was in the playroom (the next room). She comes hobbling out telling me she has something on her foot. Turns out she is saying that she has poopie on her foot. Sure enough. A giant turd is on the top of her foot! In fact she didn't get it on anything but her foot. We aren't exactly sure how she managed that but we got it taken care of and she got to have an afternoon bath.

After her bath we went to our neighbors to see thier pictures from Hawaii. And Sherie had also just gotten out of the bath and still had wet hair. Olivia asks,"Did you take a bath too?"
Sherie says, "Yes, I just had a bath like you!"
Olivia then asks, "Did you poop in your playroom too?"
Sherie is laughing and tells her, "No, I did not poop in my playroom."
Olivia continues, "Did you poop in my playroom?" By now we are cracking up, and thankfully Sherie tells us she did not poop in our playroom!

12 YEARS!!

Today we celebrated our 12th anniversary. Holy cow! I can't believe it has been that long. We went to Snowbird and had fun doing the fun summer activities. We did the zipline, rode the tram, went down the Alpine slide, rode a mechanical bull (I had so much fun on that! I was laughing so hard the guy running it was cracking up). I also got to rock climb...made it to the top! After we came down we went to The Blue Iguana in Salt Lake. Really, really good Mexican food and I don't usually like mexican food! We had a ton of fun!

Husband Tag

I haven't been good about blogging again. So here are a bunch in a row. Here is Cara's tag all about our husbands. And since she and I married brothers the answers are remarkably similar!


1. What is his name? JaDee Brent Moncur
2. Who eats more? He does but I have gained more weight in our 12 years together…I guess that’s what happens when you carry 3 of his children for 9 months
3. Who said I love you first? I did.
4. Who is taller? He is. He is 6’0 I am 5’0.
5. Who is smarter? Me in history and English and definitely spelling…Him in math, science and good common sense!
6. Who is more sensitive? Maybe him. I
7.Who does the laundry? I do. But he is a great folder during college football and basketball seasons.
8. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? He does. I have the left and have since we were first married.
9. Who pays the bills? He takes care of most of them. I take care of anything medical or dental
10. Who cooks more? I do. I love to cook. Like Mitchell, JaDee can actually cook really well. He and his brother have “The Gift” of concocting original recipes. Most we don’t remember how to make again. He is the better dessert maker and baker.
11. What meals do you cook together? Cake, and mashed potatoes (I can’t make gravy very well).
12. Who is more stubborn? It's a toss-up! We're both a little stubborn, and sadly we passed this on to all 3 of our children.
13. Who is the first to admit they're wrong? I am first to admit JaDee is wrong.
14. Who has more siblings? JaDee, he has 5, I have 4.
15. Who wears the pants in the relationship? I don't really know. Like Cara, I am pretty bossy by nature (shocked anyone?). But JaDee is so easy-going and we discuss most everything before anything is decided.
16. What do you like to do together? Recently its been running. We also love movies (go NetFlicks!), and going on trips. We also love IKEA! And drawing houseplans.
17. Who eats more sweets? Oh definitely JaDee. He has a big bowl of ice cream every night. However I have to have chocolate most days.
18. Guilty pleasures? Late night mindless movies like Nacho Libre.
19. How did you meet? My roommate Carrie and I threw a huge Halloween Party our sophomore year at BYU. We invited his apartment because they were in our ward. We started hanging out and ended up hiking Arches alone in early December after the rest of the group flaked and left us. See the next question for the rest of the story.
20. Who asked who out first? So while we were hiking Arches I realized I really like this guy. Like maybe a lot. So then I started feeling all weird around him because we had been just friends for like the past 2 months. He asked me out by ourselves later that week to see the Forgotten Carols, Christmas program. It was all downhill after that.
21. Who kissed who first? I think he did.
22. Who proposed? JaDee did. He came to the Testing Center (where I worked) and after I had said I loved the way the guy proposed to Sandra Bullock in While You Were Sleeping (he flicks a ring into the subway coin slot at the teller station where she worked instead of handing her the change or his pass). So at BYU you have to hand the worker your ID to scan and open the test. Well JaDee handed me an engagement ring on the counter. He had already talked to my supervisor who had someone coming in for me. So I left work that night, we went to Olive Garden where there were dozen roses and a whole section closed off for us!
23. His best features? His pretty blue eyes, his red curly hair, and of course, his manly physique.
24. What is his greatest quality? He is very patient with ME!!! I tend to rely on him to keep me from freaking out. I lean on him tons. He doesn’t mind when I go out with my friends and he is so good with my kids when they are little like Olivia. I have to handle them once they turn 5. Which works out because some days, God bless her, she drives me NUTS!

Summer

It's been 2 weeks since we got home and we are into our summer fun. Ethan is doing swimming lessons and I don't mind saying that he is the best one in his class! He is also playing T-Ball. He is on a team that includes kids going into Kindergarten and he will be in 2nd...Needless to say he is the biggest one on the team! In fact he is even taller than one little girl when he is kneeling down!

Carter has mastered his WaveBoard. It is a 2-wheeled skateboard that you balance and move like a snowboard on land. We went to the skate park and all the other bigger boys were impressed!

Olivia learned to swim on our trip. She begs to go to the pool every day. We have only been once but plan on going next week. We hope Marin can come! And when I say she can swim I mean even the lifegaurds at the pool were impressed with how she can breast stroke and come up for air and get in and out of the 4' deep by herself!

We met Tonya at the Aquarium after we got back. The kids had fun with sharks, stingrays, an octopus and my favorite jelly fish! It is a small aquarium but a really good variety of animals.

So it is business as usual. Oh I ran a 5K and all I can say is I finished. I was really slow. My calf mussels have been really sore since I switched shoes so I am going to try a little faster another time.

And I went camping. I didn't get to cold and I didn't die, so all in all a successful trip. Olivia caught and ate her first fish all by herself. Well the catching part, JaDee cooked it!
