Paint

Once upon a time Olivia had a bedroom that was painted plaid.  I painstakingly matched the pink in her bedspread with the right paint colors.  I saw a room on HGTV that was painted a yellow plaid and wanted to do it for Olivia.

First we painted all the walls the lighter pink.
Second we measured all the walls and decided how thick we wanted the stripes.  We drew this out on graph paper to make sure it would look OK.
Thrid we taped the vertical lines off.
Forth, we painted the vertical lines the darker shade of pink with a very dry roller and a very light coat.  We made a couple of mistakes where the vertical stripes turned out to dark and we painted over them with the light pink again. Re-taped and re-painted the dark pink lines.
Fifth, we taped off the horizontal lines (there are actually only 2 that go all the way around the room)
Finally, 6th, we painted the horizontal stripes.  I did this with a roller and stopped at the point where the horizontal and vertical lines crossed. I wanted a crisp and slightly darker "square" where the plaid meets up. So I used a brush and hand painted each square to make it look just right.

Olivia in February 2008 on her big girl bed.
Her crib was the same bedding but smaller and the quilt actually hung on the wall instead of on her bed.

Olivia pretends to be asleep.  I wanted to see if this picture shows a closer up view of the lines intersecting.  It sort of does....

Then we moved.  And Olivia had a plain white room with ugly green curtains hanging in it.

UNTIL LAST WEEK!

Now she has this!

Looking into Olivia's Room from the doorway.

Looking straight ahead from the door into Olivia's room.  The bedspread actually looks OK without any pink on the walls.

A little extra in the doorway.

And looking from her bed back at the door and the closet.

It is three shades of blue.  The bottom is a very lavendar almost perriwinkle blue from Ralph Lauren called "Indian Sky". the top is a barely purple white shade from Ralph Lauren called "Crescent Moon." The middle stripe is an aqua color called "Beach Water," also by Ralph Lauren.

The mural is a sticker set that my sister found for her little girl and she accidently ordered two.

Up next is a new color for our front door in a vibrant dark teal...but I have to wait for it to get a little warmer outside...so by June I should be able to get that done.

Also be on the lookout for a remodel of the boys room.  Carter says we need to have room for a drum set....
Carter at last weeks spring band concert..he plays the drums in the Jazz band. They also performed at this big city wide charity walk last Friday.  He is planning on doing Jazz band in high school and really likes the drums. So unless I want the set in my living room it is time for some lofts to go in the boys rooms!

I am loving Olivia's room!! Does this mean you are really going to stay in Alaska? Savannah told me yesterday she wanted to serve a mission in Alaska(that was random)!
What are you buying a chain saw? You are silly!

I'm paint chip challenged. Honestly, I don't know what looks good where. I admire people who buy a gallon and get brushin'! It looks fantastic, and I love the sweet little owl in the tree decal(?). The plaid looks difficult to do, but I think it looks cute too! Well done. Good thing we are renting, and aren't allowed to paint anything!

That turned out really cute!! And Olivia got her purple like she wanted! I can't believe Livs was ever, that small. It was fun to see her wearing the same outfit that Brooke now wears :) And you were always more adventurous when it comes to paint than I am.

Olivia's room turned out so cute! I love the stickers! Carter looks so old behind those drums! He and Cara will have to have a jam session sometime.

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
