...still: the farm

I wish I had a picture of the  giant, (but safely buried) rectangular trampoline and the 11 more kids that were on that at the time of this picture! And take note that it is Carter GETTING the underdog and Ethan JUMPING off the swing and flying through the air.

a perfect wyoming sunset

I recently filled out a get to know you survey at a church activity and one of the questions was "where is your favorite place to vacation?"  This was actually my hardest question.  I thought back to trips as a kid to Ocean City, MD or the Adirondacks.  I thought of my girls trip to San Diego this past spring.  I have never been to Europe or Hawaii but would like to go someday. I remembered our fun family trip to Seattle when the boys were little. All of the times in Jackson Hole, or Vail, stuck in Sidney, Nebraska in a blizzard (remind me to tell you about that sometime...), the camping and adventures here in Alaska...

But what I wrote down was The Farm.

Oh the farm is quite possible one of the least relaxing places on the planet too!  This year there were LARGE portions of our trip where at any given moment there were 17 children and only 2 moms to be found.  We had a revolving door of visitors outside of our immediate family that constantly changed the routine of daily life.  We had dads Jeff and JaDee go home leaving me and EmRee husbandless.  There are ditches full of water for children to fall into.  Little boys asking for matches (which we have to hide). Big boys wanting to shoot air soft guns and fireworks. Pirate ships and broken arms (that happened after I left).

And of course 3 meals a day.

Plus snacks.

But as hectic as it is, I guess when I think of where I would choose to spend my airplane tickets, I would almost always choose to do it here.

Hi Nicole, thanks for visiting my blog! I've only been in Alaska for a about three months now. I live in Anchorage. Used to live in Ogden (and a lot of other places) and have known Nancy's family since she was a young girl. (Nice, long story.) I have a lot of posts about this move to Alaska and you will probably recognize most of the pictures and stories I've posted about it if you want to go back and look at them. Been trying to get some travel in while it's easier to do so. I see you have quite a few, too. Interesting! I'll link your blog on my page so I can just click over--if i can figure out how to do that on my new layout.

LOVING this whole Alaska thing, since summer and now fall...hmmm, how will I fare through the winter...

Isnt it funny how your favorite vacations usually involve tons of family and complete chaos! I have my favorite places I'd like to go but still love it when we all get together.

I think it sounds like a bit of a chaotic heaven. :) I'd probably love it. It must be fun to have such a huge and fun family!!!

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

"Reading can be dangerous." --Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
