ma mere

Its nice after your visitors leave to be able to rummage through your laundry looking for underwear in the upstairs hall totally naked...

Not that I did that or anything today after my mom left from her week with us.

Not that I would ever do that...I'm just saying it's nice to be able to if you wanted too...

Anyway we had a great time with my mom on her first trip to Alaska. The best part actually came about an hour before she left when she told us that while Ben was showing her Maine a couple of weeks ago on her visit to his house, he said, "I bet Nicole is going to try to top this."

What Mom didn't say was, "Well of course, Ben. It is Alaska after all."
What the good mother that she is said was, "I didn't know it was a contest!"

What dear mother's everywhere ought to know by now is that it is ALWAYS a contest amongst siblings.

Here are the highlights (of which I won):

Northern Lights
Mt. McKinley
Carter's high school debut as Young Rip in the play Rip Van Winkle
Seward Sea Life Center
Kenai Peninsula
Fall foliage
Lots of lunches out
Grandkids of which I am the proud owner of 3/4 of those and in which Ben has none.

All documented with our camera we recently got replaced...free of charge :)

ps- I love you Ben!
but Alaska will always top Maine...just sayin'

You crack me up! And so does mom's Dr. Pepper bottle in that one pic. Glad it was a good trip. You better be ready to do that again when we come up :)

You are lucky that you saw the Northern lights, I still haven't seen them. I also haven't seen Denali in months, it's always gorgeous. Your mom looks very happy, I am glad she had fun!

Ha! You're right. Probably can't top Alaska.

I love it! I'm glad your mom could visit, but I totally know what you mean about not being able to run free with company in the house. It is seriously so beautiful there. It reminds me of Washington. ;) Great news about your camera replacement, too!

SO much fun - I really miss my parents since having kids. It seems that when I know what they're missing, I want them to witness it first hand even more - grandkids are totally the best!! :D ... so is Alaska. Sorry Ben... I'm sure Maine is great too.

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
