Oh dear

I tried to post some more pictures form our Memorial Day weekend but for some reason my computer is not reading my SD card. I hope I didn't lose all of those fun pictures.

So you will have to imagine us finding starfish in Homer, sea anemone's while we were clamming in Ninilchik, Sea otters in Kachemak Bay, roasting marshmallows in the sun at 11 o'clock at night, a raft trip down the Kenai and our awesome friends.

A little about our rafting trip. Our friends have a really nice raft with a self bailing floor and inflatable bottom, oars and seats and all the things you would want to go down one of the biggest rivers in North America.

We have 2 free rafts that JaDee and a buddy fixed so that they float.

One we named the "Adventure Craft." It seats 4-6 and we ran back to the car to get the clamming buckets for bailing.

The other is named "The Amoeba" because of its wavelike, shapeless, conforming to the river currents. The Amoeba seats 8 or so. It too needed a bucket on board just in case.

So we put 4 boys in the Adventure Craft and the rest (including Champ) throughout. The Adventure Craft quickly needed snacks and had on board Doritos, root beer and Swedish fish. About two thirds of the way down our float and some rapids that were only about a class 1+, the boys got tired of paddling so Stefanie and I jumped in with Carter and let the rest of the boys on the nice big raft.

Oh and the Amoeba had a wet dog from a big slurp over a rapid dumping a ton of water on them.

Well the Adventure Craft had hit that same big rapid and capsized the Dorito bag into the bottom of the boat.

So Stef and I stepped into a veritable smorgasbord of snacks floating in the bottom. Oh it was lovely and made me grateful for my Wellies (otherwise known as irrigation boots) to keep me up out of the muck.

And then we got rammed by the nice red raft and I got dumped.

Into the Dorito water at the bottom of the boat, legs flailing as I tried to push off the soft bottom boat, Carter grabbed me and pulled me back into a sitting position. Stefanie was just sad she didn't have a camera and all of us were laughing so hard!

I only had a few Swedish fish on my bum.

All in all it was AMAZING weather and the scenery was perfect. We had a bald eagle right over hour heads (maybe he wanted some Doritos too) and no one else had a close call getting dumped.

Don't you wish you got to ride in a boat called The Adventure Craft?

I'm praying your SD card works so I can see the Adventure Craft in all its glory. Good family memories!

I hope we can see pictures! That sounds like so much fun. Champ probably thinks his owners are crazy for making him float down a river :)

What a fun trip! I hope we can see those pictures soon!

And yes, Spencer pronounces granola like GRANdma. So does his mom, so at least I know where he got it. :) Moshmellow, huh? I would think writing the word a few times would cure that one. :)

I hope you can get your photos because I really need a visual of these boats! And I really wish there was some hidden camera capturing your fall into the Dorito and Swedish fish water - oh I would have loved to see that :) Only because it is totally something that would happen to ME!

A little quote or two...

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
