Thankful #22

There would be a picture but I am on the crappy temporary computer that for some reason can't read my back-up photo disks...

Today is my Dad's birthday. So I am thankful for him. Once when I was at BYU I was having a hard time with all the Utah Mormons and how, in Mormon slang, "Molly" they all were. I was homesick for NY, my not-LDS friends who lived in the "real world" and grumpy.

He told me that I was raised where I would grow strong in the church. And that other people were raised where they would be strong. We were very different from one another, but to try and tolerate these differences a little bit more.

That little pep talk has helped me throughout my life to try to understand where people are coming from and realize that everyone is set in the best circumstances for them. That still did not mean that my Visiting teachers could come knocking on my door at Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM when we had 2PM church. (duh! I didn't have to be up until 1:00 What were they thinking coming so early)!

Very wise. The last two and half years in Provo have been...challenging? For lack of a better word. I will try to remember your dad's wisdom the next time my visiting teacher comes knocking on my door at 8:20pm with a jar of peaches wondering if she can come in and visit with me. While I am politely trying to tell her no Tori of course has jumped out of her bed is into the linen closet looking for her Tinker Bell sheets. The linen closet is emptied onto the floor, my mom is flying in the next morning. My visiting teacher asks "what can I do to help you?" I respond "leave". I know un-Christlike.

What great dad advice. Your dad sounds like a wise man;) Soon you will be in the "real world", and that will be another eye opener. I remember when I moved to South Texas, I was longing for a little Utah Molly to move in. She didn't but a Idaho Molly did, and I loved the connection. Oh, and as a RS Pres, I encourage my VT never to drop by a sisters house. Always make an appointment:):)

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
