My Time

Last week I had a number of things on the calendar.  All of them good and all of them helpful and you know how the song goes, "When we are helping we're happy!"

I was not happy.

Most of the week I was in a funk and I could not figure out why.  Well I kind of knew.  Two of my helpful commitments were interfereing with my regularly scheduled sewing project groups. I was going to have to cancel my attendence to one project group and be really late to another in order to be helpful elsewhere.  I was not happy about it, but I was determined to be helpful and set aside my not so necessary obligations to my sewing machine and the ladies I sew with.

Then, low and behold, both of my helping commitments got cancelled or postponed!  And oh it was like a cloud had lifted off my whole week once my sewing days were put back in place.

So what have we learned here?  Well for starters, my sewing is almost always for someone else.  I have so many projects for people in my life that I want to do, that I had to make a list and a schedule of the order of my projects needed to be completed.  Therefore, I am already helping people and being generous with my time by simply going to my project groups.  And since in case you haven't noticed, I am a schedule junkie and having the weekly time set aside to go to these groups ensures that my goals are accomplished and the people I love are given heartfelt gifts. This already generous scheduled time should not be superseded by other things!

Also, after a great day of sewing I felt so revived!  Really, it felt like my well was full again and I could carry on. JaDee just laughs at me. See he remembers the time I borrowed his mother's machine and he had to come home from work to thread the machine for me.  My mother also can't believe my new hobby since she was there with the first pair of shorts I made in which I sewed the pockets shut and had one leg longer than the other one.

And finally I learned, that my time is just as important as someone else's. Even if I am trying to be helpful and give of my time, some things are just too much for me to sacrifice.

I would post pictures of all these projects, but they are gifts, REMEMBER!!

I LOVE "MY Time" too! I'm glad you had a good sewing day. I can't wait to see photo's of all your projects. Thats one thing I wish I could do. By the way, I've been waiting for a photo of your new chandelier hanging in your entry way;);)

Look at your domesticity! I have a similar story of trying to thread the bobbin - had to get out the manual because my mother was out of town. I have not found any desire to sew since then, so I applaud your determination and skills! I joke that my hobbies are shopping and eating out :) Need to find something more productive! And thank you for enjoying my song - Tyler was embarrassed I had "sworn" on blogosphere....But sometimes I can't help but crack myself up! Ha~! Have a better week!!!

Absolutely! There is nothing selfish with taking time for yourself. I find that if I don't do that, I just make everyone else miserable.

You are my sewing inspiration. I know nothing. Spencer showed me how to sew on a button shortly after we were married and I haven't done much more than that since.

BTW, I love your new background. (No pun intended.)

I am wondering where "my time" has gone and need to schedule some. We all do or like Sarah said, we're a beast to be around.

It's so true. Your heart was in what you truly wanted to do, and that's why it was a refreshing thing for you. I feel the same way when I am committed to "help" but not in the ways I want to help, necessarily. Glad you got some sewing in!

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
