The Little Red Hen (got eaten by a dog)

I have this friend named Suzie, who brought the most delicious loaf of homemade wheat bread to my house after we moved here. We are really good friends with her son, J and his wife, also J, who have 3 kids that match mine in age and gender (they have to remain anonymous because they are part of the witness protection program). Anyway they too make this delicious bread and shared the recipe with me.

Yesterday I ground the wheat. By hand. All by myself with 30 Rock playing on Netflix. Mixed the bread. Locked it in my warm car for 90 minutes to rise. And baked the bread. Except it didn't turn out like theirs so I did not take any pictures and decided I would wait to blog about my Little Red Hen experience until I could boast of a success.

Until I came downstairs this morning after doing loads of laundry to see that my dog had eaten one whole loaf.

Yeah, he has never heard the story of the Little Red Hen.

And tomorrow I may be posting about dog indigestion.

Oooh, I hope the dog has indigestion outside.

Bread takes practice, and taste is the thing, not looks. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

I hope you make JaDee clean up any dog indigestion. Also, I never made it my sprouting class. Maybe I'm not ready to be domesticated yet!

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
