I'm Back

We have spent the last 2 days doing homework. Carter stayed home yesterday and we wrote 6 five paragraph essays, and did a project on Hassium (some ridiculous element that these German scientists discovered and it has no known use. I know, real interesting, but the teacher wants to re-create a huge periodic table in his classroom and so they all had to be covered) Ethan is home today doing the stack of paper that was sitting for him on his desk when he got back yesterday. Never mind that I told the teacher well in advance to get the work just like the school's policy said so that I might avoid a homework overload when we got back. Never mind that everything Ethan is doing today could have been done on the 10 hour plane rides to and from New Jersey. So he is staying home today and getting it all done. Because as an added bonus his class policy is to miss recess at lunch if there is any outstanding homework and that includes absent work. So we are skipping a day to get it done.

We had a great time. Here is our itinerary from New Jersey 2010: The first column is the date, the second is our main activity for the day and the last is where we will sleep that night. I made these for the boys to avoid so many questions of, "What are we doing today?"

And here are some highlights

*Olivia telling Tom that he absolutely cannot drink his coffee in Kim's livingroom because food stays in the kitchen.

*JaDee enjoying a Philly Cheese steak from Capriatti's in Delaware at Tim and Autumn's.

*Ethan naming himself Frodo of Ben and Katie's wedding since he got to be the ring bearer and Katie's nephew "B, " was Samwise since he was the assistant.

*Carter loved the open bar at the country club. Even if it was just Cherry Coke he was getting for Grandpa.

*My tailbone hurt so bad from falling on it while X-country skiing before I left that I almost threw up and passed out every time I stood up from a sitting position

*There are 168 bunnies at Aunt Ruth's house

* There are 159 steps to the top of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal.

*Every girl under the age of 40 and even one 19 year old, whether single or not, was groped by Ben's friend Jason at the reception. I even got to slow dance with him as he slurred, "Which one is your husband again?"

*Jared's lost wallet was found on the top of the parking pass kiosk and was not on its way to parts unknown in NJ on the commuter rail from Penn Station.

*Ethan's lost DS was in his pocket the whole time and not left at the gas station

*Olivia was found in the minivan when she was not up ahead with her brothers nor was she back behind with her slow parents, who are in fact, so slow they forgot to get her unbuckled and she wet her pants in the van.

*My super cool shoes can jump to "Jump Around," by House of Pain, at a wedding reception.

*You can swim in the Atlantic when it is only 50 degrees outside when you are from Alaska.

Is this part 1 of all your adventures? :) I hope you can sneak in a trip to UT this summer otherwise I don't know when the next time we will be able to get together. I like mom's idea and want to plan a girl's trip to somewhere fun!

Glad to have you back! That sounds like a very crazy and fun trip. The pictures are adorable, I can only imagine how fun Olivia was to dress up like that. Ethan, I mean Frodo, looked like he took his job very serious and he looked great!

What a good-looking bride and groom! I'm glad all of the family could get together and be a part of it. That's the only time we all manage to get together anymore! I had to cringe at your comment about your son's teacher not getting his work ahead of time. That totally would have been me. I couldn't manage to plan that far ahead. Then again, I only taught two years. I hope he gets all caught up soon! Olivia is adorable.

Loved this post, Nicole. What a crazy, fun trip. The pics of the beautiful couple are, well, beautiful. They look so happy. Ben looks so much like a Campbell it amazes me.

Your kids were adorable! Oh, and I hear you on the tail bone pain. I hurt mine once falling down some stairs, and yeah, it's the getting up from sitting that kills! At least you were doing something cool when you hurt yours.

Anyway, fun fun! And good one keeping the kids home to finish homework. I hate the no-recess-if-homework-isn't-done policy.

LOVE IT ALL! How fun. I'm glad you had such a wonderful time. Call when you get a chance to tell me more. I would have stayed home from school to - great call Mom.

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
