Bittersweet

I have noticed something in the blogging world. Weekends seem to be a time out for bloggers. Most of the sites I stalk don't post on the weekends. And my sister had no new comments on her new post from Saturday. In fact I have not posted this weekend or done much checking of blogs myself.

This weekend was the 179th semi-annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was so nice to hear from our prophet and apostles. I feel a renewed sense of spirituality and purpose. And of course we continued our Moncur Tradition of cinnamon rolls Sunday morning (thanks Linda...I use your recipe). On Thursday the transcripts will be available on-line and I will be especially interested in studying a few of the talks as they are printed.

It was also bittersweet to see my lovely Utah again. We watched conference via the Internet or listened to it via ksl radio when the Internet servers were busy. If we had a satellite we could get BYU TV which also broadcasts it all over the world. That was my one regret for not getting TV here, but the computer served us just fine.

And speaking of my bittersweet feelings towards Utah...I will be there in 10 days!! I will be calling this week to work out my itinerary with the important parties and finding a ride from the airport and places to stay. I am most excited!!

But here comes the bittersweet part. I am really starting to like it here and I feel guilty for liking it. Like I am somehow disloyal to my dear friends, especially, for not pining away after their absence. Because family I will see and they will be what takes up a majority of my time on these trips to UT in April and again in June. And of course I want to see my family and spend time with them, but I love my friends just as much. I will be carefully dividing my time...as long as my friends don't hold it against me for liking Alaska now and being excited for the upcoming summer.

Have fun on your trip!.

And don't feel guilty for taking a liking to Alaska. If you think about it, God made the whole earth to be our home, so it's just you getting to know one more part of "home".

I'm impressed you bake on conference weekend. I nap (between sessions). Okay sometimes I can't help but nap the last part of the afternoon one.;)

If you see ash fall, dead and living moose all around, brave the subzero temps, and survived that crazy trip out there and STILL love where you are right now, then you are really seeing the good and beautiful things around you. It must be an amazing place...my husband's dream is to visit there one day. (I will have to get parka advice when that day comes.)

GOOD for you for loving it!! Your family makes wherever you are home. And from what I can tell, yours is a lovely one.

Have a great day and have fun planning that trip! I know you are excited!

I think once the weather starts to get nice, even the worst of places (not that AK is bad) seems more homey. I am so excited for you to come, though and will give the evil eye to anyone who tries to steal you away when you should be spending time with me! j/k

I told Mitch just yesterday, "I think Nicole is starting to like Alaska." He was asking if I'd talked to you lately. I'm so glad I was right!

One of the things I admire about you, Nicole, is how you bloom where you're planted. I think that is such a gift, and how wonderful that you're liking Alaska! I think it's fantastic.

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

"Education enriches the mind and enlightens the
soul," --Nicole Moncur 2008

"Reading can be dangerous." --Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
