Eye did it!

Ha ha ha.

ha ha.

ha.

Aren't I funny. Because I dissected a cow's eye today. You know went to my local science store and said to myself, "Hmmmmm what mad experiments do I feel like doing today?" and the answer was to buy a preserved cow eye and dissect it.

Just kidding.

I went with Carter's 6th grade class on a field trip. And at the science museum we did a class on dissecting cows eyes. In fact I almost backed out because of this particular dissection. See I have problems watching people put in contacts and I can't even put eye drops in my own eye. Eye's freak me out.

So when the little teacher plopped 2 gigantic slimy, oozing eyes into my hands (gloved) to help her pass them out to each group of 2, I seriously almost passed out. I kind of left my body for that journey across the room and pretended I was somewhere else. Preferrably somewhere without a pair of dead cow eyes in my hands.

But as the kids got into it and as a "helper" I was there to help, I ended up cutting the eyeball's circumference, fishing the lens out of pool of jelly, and helped scrap a retina out.

I'm not sure if this was the sure thing to cure my little phobia or not.

I must have the same phobia! Worms? Frogs? Let's dissect them? Even reading this post made my stomach churn and my eyes...twitch. You are my hero.

HMmmmmmmm. I remember doing that in high school. Blech. You know I don't think it was the eyeball itself that was the worst, it was the smell of the formaldehyde that grossed me out. ick. Kudos to you for being a good helper! Who knows, maybe the teacher had to fast that day to keep from puking!

Congrats. Not many people get to have such a thrilling experience! Although I don't feel very sorry for you since I dissected HUMANS in college anatomy!

You are very tough. There is no way I could do that!

Way to face your phobia! I was always the lab partner who did all the work because I thought it was fascinating while my partner watched from a distance. :)

I'm glad you're participating in the science project.....everyone should disect animal organs once. I grew up on a farm and am very familiar with the such......we went to the butcher for "parts" many times to create fabulous Halloween spook alleys. All in a days "adventure".

A little quote or two...

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
