Does anyone know what a yurt is? As soon as I hop over to Wikipedia I will tell you. You can also go there yourself here. The reason I ask is that I heard a lady at church telling about her hike into the wilderness to stay in a yurt this weekend. They only made it through one night…OK I am still at the part where they hiked into wherever it was to begin with. Even if it wasn’t -15, which it was, who does that in the middle of winter with small children, which she has. A yurt is a portable, felt-covered, wood lattice-framed dwelling structure used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia. Sounds very warm and cozy when it is -15!!
Then just when I thought I met a nice normal woman from Alaska I find out she did this 26 mile backpacking trip from Girdwood (where the ski resort is) to Eagle River (where we live).
Thank goodness Ryanne was up from Utah visiting family for the holidays! She came swimming with us at the hotel with cute, freshly pedicured toes. She and her mother inlaw and sis in law had gotten pedis that afternoon. Someone tell my Mother in law that is what we will be doing when she comes to visit. As long as the spa isn’t in some yurt!

Every time that I read your blog I am left SPEECHLESS!!! Are you sure that Alaska really is considered part of the United States? Just Curious
funny.....

They actually have some Yurts in Utah. Anyone can stay in them when you are out hiking and need a place to stay for the night.
I personally have never stayed in one and I really don't want to but I have seen them.
To answer Laurie's question, No I do not believe Alaska is really part of the United States. At the very least it is about as far away from Upstate NY as I can get. Both physically and figurtively.
you are my new hero. I always feel as though I am in a foreign land in Provo, but Alaska...WOW!!! BTW I would NEVER roll my own snow tires to the front of the store (isn't that their job). I am still annoyed that stores feel as though their self service check out is helping the customer. NO it just allows them to hire fewer checker outers, and gave the job to the consumer. In the words of my mother "I feel as though it is a part time job when I have to bag my own groceries."
Haha! Ah, Laurie.
Hey I have a friend from high school who lives in one of those. FULL TIME! Crazy hippies!! Its supposed to be nice and warm with a fire in the center? I think it would be better then girls camp.
