Happy birthday Alaska

Today is Alaska's 50th anniversary of being admitted to the Union. Congratulations! The fireworks were great downtown and no we did not get out of the car. (We are apparently experiencing the coldest cold snap in a long time. Glad we got here in time for that. Click here for a look at our weather).

We have lived in the first state (Delaware) and now the 49th state. I am pretty sure I am one of only a few people who can say that (there might be 5 of us all together). But here is an interesting thought. Delaware is the 2nd smallest and Alaska is the biggest (sorry Texas) yet Delawareans outnumber Alaskans by over 100,000.

And the choices for Vice president this election were from Delaware or Alaska.

Anyway if you or anyone you know has lived in both Delaware AND Alaska let me now and leave a message. I am thinking of starting a facebook club about this (I'll keep you up on that).

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
