What's going on up here

Well first of all the temperature is above 0! In fact it got so warm (+45) that all the snow melted! We had freezing rain that closed school for a day. Then all the warm temps turned all the snow packed roads into ice and that gave us 2 more days out of school. Then today was Martin Luther King Day and there was no school. It feels like Christmas break again!

Olivia started her first ballet class today. She calls it "balleray." She loved it! A mom watching the class came up to me after and said that Olivia is her new favorite person. She was apparently most entertaining. I thought she was cute and all but even as her mom it wasn't anything too special. But this lady was just in love with Olivia and her little personality out there.

Carter and JaDee went skiing.

I found a fabulous antique store called Ozark Antiques. For those of you who know the Lavender House it is just like that but with a lot more furniture. A great place to find that shabby chic look. I was most excited!

We made some new friends at church and they had us over for dinner last night. We had so much fun! The kids even said it felt like playing with the cousins. Catherine made us this fantastic meal. It was like a Hawaiian haystack except with Mexican Pot Roast instead of chicken and cornbread instead of rice. SO GOOD! I am getting that recipe and posting it!

I also found a knitting store near my new house. They give lessons. Should I become a knitter? Cross country skiing is on hold until we get some snow!

JaDee went to a meeting about becoming a volunteer for the Iditarod. He is going to try to get on as a dog handler and do a food drop or two with the bush pilots. Dog handlers lead the teams up to the starting line and help the musher with whatever they need before the race. The bush pilots are all like 75 years old and can't lift the food bundles so they need young guys like JaDee to fly along and do the grunt work.

I am just making sure that JaDee gets his Alaskan experience! Then in 3 years there will be no excuse to stay!

I will start remebering my camera! We have no pictures sledding, skating, or the awesome sunset tonight over Cook Inlet!! So here is picture of the Iditarod website.

Well, Nicole it sounds like things are on the up and up, or at least improving. I'm so happy you've found some stores you like and that your kids seem to be adjusting and having some positive experiences too. A new move is always an adjustment. You're doing so great!

Sounds like you are in a routine. That's good!!
I was thinking of our Vail trip we took last year. We are still wanting to go see the Pug Gang, but haven't decided when. Wish you all could be there. I loved my visit with you.
When is the big move in day??

Woo hoo it is a heat wave there!

DEFINITELY go for the knitting classes!! I think you'll enjoy it.

Hope you are not getting too cabin-feverish with all these days off school!

Glad balleray was fun too!!

it doesn't sound like you are completely hating life in AK--i'm glad you found some new stores! and i doubt there are any knitting stores in ogden so that's a plus!

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
