Pushing up daisies (almost)

I must have been predestined to live in Alaska. All of the wild flowers are my wedding colors: purple and yellow. And everywhere we look there are daisies. Wild daisies. The kind that I grew in my Utah yard and that I also had in my wedding bouquet. Olivia loves them too. We went and picked these last week.

They were at the bank of this hill leading into a wooded area up the street from us. So we were enjoying a leisurely afternoon of picking daisies when our neighbor drove by.

"Hey, there is a momma moose and a baby in those woods. My wife couldn't load the trailer this morning [they were camping for the 4th] because she was with her baby in our yard drinking out of the sprinkler. Just thought I would give you a heads up."

Aren't Alaskans nice? I mean he could have left me and Olivia to our fate as we made our way up the hill in the quest for a full bouquet to garnish our table. We could have been trampled to death! But we were saved from certain peril by our good neighbor.

Over the years we have had great neighbors. We have helped each other out countless times. I once had mastitis so bad I could barely stand it, and a neighbor brought me dinner. After a devastating miscarriage another brought my family another meal. Another neighbor picked up a bloody nosed boy from school for me when I could not be reached.

I have no doubt they would have warned of a moose too.

Check out these wild flower pictures I stole from Sarah's blog.

How pretty! I hope I get to see your Alaska house some day. I'm so glad you and Olivia lived to tell your tale. By the way, in response to your comment on my blog, yes, I have been working out. That's how I look so hot in my nasty faded wife-beater tank top and mom-tan in that boating picture :)

Those are really pretty flowers. I am thinking that Blake and I need to come visit during the summer months instead of fall. I want to go on some of these gorgeous hikes I keep seeing pics of on yours and sarah's blogs. Thanks for the food advice. I will probably still you call you later, though!

Life is GOOD when things click with the neighbors:)

A little quote or two...

“There is in every true woman's heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.” -Washington Irving

BOOK HOUSE from the paper of my Grandfather Sidney W. Campbell

I always think the cover of a book is like a door Which opens into someone's house where I've not been
before. A pirate or a fairy queen may lift the latch for me. I always wonder when I knock, what welcome there will be. And when I find a house that's dull, I do not often stay But when I find one full of friends, I'm apt to spend the day. I never know what sort of folks will be within you see. And that's why reading always is so interesting to me. ~~Annie Fellows Johnston
